This Italian restaurant in Uptown is fabulous. Il Gatto means “the cat,” and they even have cat features added to the male and female silhouettes on the restroom doors! Make reservations or expect an hour wait. The restaurant is in Calhoun square, near one of our favorite kitchen supply stores, The Kitchen Window. The restaurant is run by a protege of Tim McKee, who is the head chef at La Belle Vie in St. Paul.
We had a new special, the Osso Buco with braised veal and a risotto. Also had the seafood sampler appetizer tray which included scallops, calamari and shrimp, all lightly batter fried and served with zucchini and green onions prepared the same way. The spicy marinara and aioli sauces on the side were excellent, too.
There is an extensive selection of nice wines, and the restaurant features $10 bottles of wine on Mondays. This is a great restaurant with handy parking in the nearby ramp, too.
